‘Tis the season to be jolly’…

… cheerful and busy and anxious and coated in flour from last-minute Christmas preparations, creating countless mince pies, shortbread cookies, and gingerbread! With all that haste, you’re surely wondering, “How do people prepare for Christmas?”

With a flurry of seasonal guests in mind, we’ve put up a few useful Christmas preparation tips and advice to ensure you stay stress-free and your guests enjoy their visit as much as possible.

1. SHORT ON BEDROOMS? GET A SOFA BED

No room at the inn? Nonsense. If you’re wondering how to prepare for Christmas in a tiny property, squeeze in a sofa bed or blow-up mattress for a season of festivities and a house full of guests. Ensure your guests enjoy a good night’s sleep with our incredibly cute and cozy bedding sets made of organic cotton and featuring adorable animal motifs.

2. MAKE ROOM

‘Good tidings they’ll bring,’ but if you have folks staying over, that’s not all they’ll bring. What about all the bags, heavy coats, and (hopefully) Christmas presents? Making space now will save you from stressing when box after box is delivered from a seemingly bottomless boot, and it will be extremely handy for hosting Christmas in a small house. This is also an excellent time to clear out your closet and drawers in preparation for the new items you may receive this year.

3. MAKE A LOT OF CHRISTMAS TREATS

Merino or Mulled wine, pastries, pies, sandwiches…whatever tickles your holiday fancy. Prepare for Christmas goodies and drinks by going shopping. If your guests have traveled a long way, one of the things that will have kept them going is the prospect of eating a few delightful goodies upon their arrival. Make sure you’ve tried and tested your Christmas baking ideas. The last thing we want is for our guests to be dissatisfied when they arrive. Mulled wine is a terrific option for adults because the aroma will fill the house with a pleasant and welcoming aroma- and will, of course, instantly get everyone in the festive attitude. For the kids, a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and their favorite Christmas sweets are sure to spread the holiday cheer. Make sure you have plenty festive drinkware!

4. CLEAN THE HOUSE

So, how do you prepare your home for Christmas?

Send your gang on a walk (or enlist their assistance if you choose), turn on some Bing Crosby, and begin cleaning up your tiny dwelling. If you’ve remained on top of things, polishing the surfaces and furnishings shouldn’t take long. Cleaning the bathroom and toilets can be tedious, but the results can be wonderful when they are dazzling and shining. Then, vacuuming (though the sound may block out Bing) will ensure that no annoying pine needles get entangled in your guests’ socks. To add some festive shine to the dinner table, add a few additional finishing touches here and there with Joules Christmas table decorations from our Christmas cooking & dining collection. Or some new cushions to liven up your sofas.

5. Stock up on towels and toiletries.

Leave towels on the bed in the room where your guests will be staying… some freshly washed towels that they may use throughout their stay. Leave a few items out as well—a it’s pleasant touch and a fantastic opportunity to get rid of those shower gels and body washes you’ve never used. If you’re feeling generous, you could always treat your guest to some new ones…

6. SET UP THE KITCHEN

Whatever the occasion, people are drawn to the kitchen like moths to a flame. Make sure the necessities, such as milk, tea, and coffee, are easily accessible. And the things you merely want to delight yourself are neatly disguised. We’re not channeling our inner Ebenezer, but that costly bottle of scotch would be wasted on a rowdy uncle. It’s also a great time to add some festive touches to your kitchen. You never know, a Christmas tea towel can even motivate folks to help with the drying. We guarantee that our Joules Friends have the best kitchen accessories to make you and your kitchen look fabulous.

7. EARLY GIFT

Did your guests end up on your naughty or lovely Christmas list? Depending on how much you appreciate your visitor, you could give them early Christmas gifts that they can enjoy during their stay. Cheap Christmas gifts with long-term use are typically appreciated to avoid breaking the budget. A pair of fluffy socks, in our humble view, is ideal. They make excellent Christmas table gifts for guests. They’re warm, colorful, and Christmassy, and they’re ideal for wearing around the house—especially if you’ve gone on a wintery walk. In that regard…

8. PLAN CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES

Dust off old board games and OS maps, prepare some unusual Christmas party games, and select a few festive movies that everyone can enjoy. These are Christmas party necessities. Nothing is worse than hearing, ‘What shall we do today?’ and by preparing for Christmas, you never will.

9. MOST IMPORTANTLY

HAVE FUN!
